Missionary Fireside, Thursday, Nov. 8th, 7:00 pm

Come join us for an evening of spiritual feasting!  We will be joined by recently returned missionaries Brother and Sister Aulestia, who will share experiences from their service in Peru and Nauvoo.

Come hear about the work, the challenges, and the blessings that have come from it, to help inspire all of us to remember the joy of service as we prepare to head into the holiday season.  Dessert will be served.

Please come in Sunday dress.

Children's class will be provided.

Relief Society Patriotic Campfire, October 11

Please join us to celebrate our country with an evening around the campfire!

Where: Ginger Turnbull's home, 13631 Chestnut Ridge Ct., Haymarket
When: Thursday, October 11, 7:00 pm

What:  Come in your best patriotic attire, sing patriotic songs, test your knowledge of presidential trivia, and of course, roast marshmallows for s'mores!  Sister Candland will be sharing her insights on the blessings of living in a country where we are free to participate in the process of choosing our leaders (or run for office ourselves!).  We'll also have a few examples of favorite cookie recipes of some of our Presidents.  I will be bringing James Polk's chocolate caramel fingers, but I'm also tempted by William Henry Harrison's lemon hospitality thins...anyway, there are plenty of recipes, so if you'd like to try one and bring it, let me know!  Or bring a favorite treat of your own!

It looks like it will be chilly after sunset, so dress warmly and bring a camp chair.  There will not be a children's class.

Hope to see you there!

Lifelong Learning Night!

'Tis the season to send the area kids back to school, and we invite all sisters to come celebrate learning with us at a Relief Society meeting on Thursday, September 13th, at 7:00 pm in the Cultural Hall.  Sister Carol Ferguson will speak to us about making our homes centers of learning, and we will learn new skills by making fabric flowers for hair clips and brooches.  Come enjoy some good company and light refreshments while we teach each other!  We ask each sister to bring a school supply item to donate to some of our local elementary schools; any school supply is fine, but teachers have particularly requested dry erase markers, pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and hand sanitizer.

We will also be using this activity to kick off our Day of Service later this month, when we will be collecting food to provide Thanksgiving dinner for 250 needy families.  Please bring a donation of non-perishable food from the following list:

stuffing
instant potatoes
corn muffin mix
canned green beans
canned corn
canned cranberries
gravy
jello
cake mix
frosting
disposable turkey roasting pans

If you have any questions about helping with this service project, please see Sister Hatala.

Hope to see you there!  Children's class will be provided.

Haymarket Ward Picnic, Saturday August 11th

The Haymarket Ward will hold a ward picnic on Saturday, August 11th, starting at 5pm. We will meet at Northern Fauquier Community Park, located at 4155 Monroe Parkway in Marshall, just off Rt. 55. The ward has reserved both the Oak Glen Shelter and the Streamsong Shelter (see park map here) so we will have plenty of space to relax in. There is also a nice children's play area, lots of open space for outdoor games, and even a fishing pond.

Everyone is asked to bring a contribution to a potluck dinner, either a main dish (whatever you feel like!), a side dish, or drinks. The ward will provide dessert and paper goods. There is an online signup sheet at  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0A49A5AF2EA46-ward to help balance the food offerings. Also feel free to bring balls, gloves, or any other outdoor games, as well as any camp chairs and bug spray.

Directions to the park can be found here.  Looking forward to seeing you all there!
